01
We restore sculptures, decorative objects and art furniture for galleries, collectors and institutions. Our conservation of the Marc Newson Black Hole Table and Micarta Desk for Friedman Benda gallery exemplifies the precision required — comparatively minor damages that were highly noticeable due to the perfection of the compounded glossy piano finish.
Each project begins with thorough condition assessment and material analysis. We document existing finishes, identify original fabrication methods and develop treatment proposals that respect the artist's intent while ensuring structural integrity and visual coherence.
02
Gold leaf gilding, silver leaf, water gilding and oil gilding for antique frames, mirrors and decorative objects. We restored a French Gilt Louis XV Period Mirror using traditional water-gilding techniques — applying gesso, bole and 23-karat gold leaf by hand to match the original 18th-century finish.
Our gilders have conserved collections of Louis period and Italian Rococo furniture, working with private collectors, auction houses and museum conservation departments. Every gilding project follows reversible conservation methods, ensuring that future conservators can retreat the surface without compromising the original substrate.
03
Heraldic crests, ornamental plaster decoration, faux finishes and decorative paint conservation for historic interiors. Our work at the NY Athletic Club involved ornamental plaster and decorative paint conservation for the 9th floor ballroom, reception and elevator lobby ceilings.
We match historic paint formulations, replicate period-appropriate color palettes and consolidate deteriorating plaster ornament. Our decorative painters work alongside our gilders and conservators to deliver seamless results on large-scale institutional projects.
Our Process
Every art conservation and specialty fabrication project follows a structured process designed to protect irreplaceable objects and deliver museum-grade results. We document thoroughly, communicate clearly and execute with precision — whether the project is a single gilded frame or a full architectural conservation program.

We examine each piece in person or from detailed photographs, documenting existing damage, material composition and previous repairs. This assessment drives the treatment proposal and cost estimate.
02
A written conservation plan details recommended treatments, materials, timeline and cost. For institutional clients, we include photographic documentation standards and reporting requirements.
03
Work proceeds in our Long Island City studio under controlled conditions. We use reversible conservation methods wherever possible, traditional hand techniques and period-appropriate materials.
04
Completed work is photographed, documented and carefully packed for delivery or installation. Every project is backed by our 12-month workmanship warranty.
We restore sculptures and decorative objects in virtually any material — wood, metal, stone, resin, fiberglass and mixed media. Our work ranges from contemporary art furniture like the Marc Newson Black Hole Table to antique decorative objects and architectural sculptures. We handle structural repairs, surface refinishing, patina matching and piano finish restoration.
Water gilding uses a traditional gesso and bole preparation with gold leaf applied over a water-based adhesive, allowing the surface to be burnished to a high shine. Oil gilding uses a slower-drying oil-based adhesive and produces a matte finish that cannot be burnished. Water gilding is the historically authentic method for fine frames and mirrors, while oil gilding is better suited for architectural applications and outdoor surfaces.
Yes. Our metalworkers and fabricators create custom panels, trim, dashboards and interior components for classic cars and motorcycles. We work from original specifications, existing parts or design drawings. Our precision metalwork capabilities include forming, welding, machining and hand-finishing in steel, aluminum, brass and bronze.
Our team includes sculptors, carvers, gilders and decorative painters who specialize in historical reproduction. We research period-appropriate materials, construction methods and decorative styles to create props that are visually authentic under stage lighting and camera close-ups. We work closely with production designers and set decorators to meet both aesthetic and practical requirements.
Yes. As AIC conservation members, we follow the American Institute for Conservation's code of ethics and guidelines for practice. This means using reversible treatments wherever possible, thoroughly documenting all interventions and respecting the original intent and material integrity of each object. We provide detailed condition reports and treatment documentation for institutional and insurance purposes.
